Update the organ, particularly the electrical wiring and some aspects of the mechanism.
Improve the organ by repairing worn out components, enhancing the physical layout, making small alterations to some pipes, adding a new solo stop and replacing the noisy action.
Invest for the future by redesigning the organ console to increase the value and lifespan of the instrument, and ensuring its existence for generations to come.
The work will be done by the internationally respected firm of J W Walker & Sons Ltd.
The cost to do this is £100,000
We aim to raise this money over two years so that the restoration on the organ can begin in January 2010.
• The wiring under the nave floor that carries the information from the console (where the organist sits) to the organ mechanism, is outdated, unreliable and needs replacing.
• The low voltage systems must be brought up to modern specifications.
• The reservoirs which hold the wind need repairing and releathering.
• Do you often hear a loud thud from the organ before a hymn or piece? This is a result of the organist choosing the stops. This noisy stop control action should not happen and must be eliminated.
• The soundboards (which hold the pipes), soundboard actions (which regulate the wind supply), slider actions and main soundboard wind regulators are all worn and need replacing.
• Some ranks of pipes will be modified to produce a more acceptable sound.
• The console needs updating with new keys and new stops.
